XS STRESS
STRESS AND ILL HEALTH
Stress is a very far reaching subject and is not easy to put into few words cause and effects are many and varied but very briefly:
Stress causes high levels of certain hormones such as Cortisol and Adrenaline to remain in the body in higher than normal levels. Short term this can be good for you however over a prolonged period it can cause a chain reaction that can have an adverse affect on our health. There are links that researchers have identified with many diseases including Heart Attacks and Strokes (see list below for some diseases linked to stress)
We become stressed as our mind identifies a situation as a threat to our well being. This does not have to be a real threat but it can be a set of circumstances interpreted subconsciously as a threat and put into operation a series of reactions within the body which is a heightened state of arousal and awareness which in the short term is helpful but then becomes damaging creating wear and tear on the organism (or body).
If nothing is done to stop this long term situation the likelihood of illness will increase or recovery from illness may take longer than necessary. Modern research supports these views which common sense has indicated for many years. There are of course many things that can be done to reduce the perception of stress and help the body to return to normal levels more swiftly and cut the chances of problems arising or continuing.
Unfortunately sometimes stress is sustained through learned behaviour and even though there is no real threat we perceive that there is one. But stress is not just a state of mind. The mind and body are linked and cannot operate independently of each other an effect on one will have an affect on the other however small it may be.
None of our solutions are magic although sometimes one might be forgiven for thinking they are. Our approach is very down to earth and realistic together we can work to resolve even what you may feel to be a most difficult problem.
